Time Flies

Life has become more fragmented. For me that means many distractions, diverted energies, and new routines. I continue to search for compelling imagery, although what I see around me lately would not comfort my soul, preserved in wood blocks. But I’m finding new ways to see, and I don’t think I’m the only one doing that now, in 2021.

My block “Wary Optimism” is in the Wood Engravers Network 4th Triennial, which can be viewed at their website www.woodengravers.org

"Baseball" Published

Upon the eve of the Cubs' first World Series appearance in 108 years (shall we delve into the 3s and 9s of baseball?) I'm happy to announce the publication of "Baseball," a personal view of the game, illustrated by 21 engravings.  There is enough between the covers to pique the interest of the uninitiated and appeal to the knowledge of the enthusiast.

The book explores the game, the setting, the players, and the playing experience.  It was printed from the 21 blocks and metal type on 175 GSM paper, sewn in signatures bound in cloth, presented in a slipcase.

"waiting" published

Having met with wide appeal, the twelve plates decorating John Burroughs' 1863 poem "Waiting" have recently been produced in a limited edition book, handmade by the engraver.  The book is limited to ten copies, printed on 250 gsm Italian mould-made paper, sewn in signatures, cased in cloth covered boards with silk headbands.

Editions now reside in the Newberry Library of Chicago, the Green Library of Stanford University, the Lilly library of Indiana University, the library of the University of Washington, and in the collections of connoisseurs of the Artist's Book.  Thus few remain available.  Inquiries can be made to www.vampandtramp.com.
